Lantau Enlightenment Tour (PM)

Known as "dai yue shan" in Chinese, meaning 'Big Island Mountain", Lantau is almost twice the size of Hong Kong island and its highest peak is almost double the height of Victoria Peak. It is one of the territories best loved islands and popular with locals and visitors alike.

The 5.7km cable car journey offers visitors spectacular 360 degree panoramic views of South China Sea, Hong Kong International Airport, Lantau North Country Park and the Giant Buddha.

Enjoy a leisure walk in the Ngong Ping Village where all the buildings are architecturally designed to reflect and maintain the cultural and spiritual integrity of the Ngong Ping area.
 
 
Po Lin Monastery and the Big Buddha
 
Attracted by its seclusion, Buddhist monks began arriving on Lantau in the early 20th century. The Po Lin or “precious lotus” monastery really developed as a place for pilgrimage in the 1920s when the Great Hall was built and the first abbot appointed.

Standing a lofty 26m high, this mighty bronze statue is among the largest seated Buddha images in the world. The statue, which was cast in more than 220 pieces, sits on a throne of lotus – the Buddhist symbol of purity.

 
Tai O Fishing Village
 
A century ago this village was in important trading and fishing port, exporting salt and fish to China. Today the local people make thier living from duck farming, fishing and making the towns most celebrated shrimp paste and processing salt fish. It is a popular place to buy dried and fresh seafood.
